When the original Freedom Writers were in school, many of them carried real trauma with them. As they grew together, however, they learned that they could use the lessons learned from these pains and troubles to become the best version of themselves. By identifying the problems of their past and learning how to tell their own stories in an uplifting fashion, the Freedom Writers were able to not only heal themselves but help other students to heal as well.

For 20 years, the Freedom Writers Foundation has mitigated student dropout rates by reproducing the Freedom Writers’ experience in schools around the world. The Foundation’s mission is to provide educators with tools to empower all students to succeed. Our core programs include Training, Outreach, Scholarship, and Curriculum.
